Kylmälä joins Coolbrook with strong background in service business at energy company Fortum, where during his 18-year tenure he held various management and leadership positions showcasing a proven track record of operational excellence. He has most recently held the position of Managing Director for the Fortum Turbine and Generator Services.

Kylmälä will play an instrumental role in in ensuring seamless execution of Coolbrook’s strategy to revolutionize industrial processes by replacing the conventional burning of fossil fuels in high temperature industrial processes with electric technology.

“Vesa’s experience spans turbine and generator installations, service business, maintenance management and international business and – together with his growth mindset – will be key for the execution of Coolbrook’s strategy of decarbonizing heavy industry on gigaton scale. Our top priority is ensuring high-quality project delivery, commissioning, operations, and aftermarket service. As we commence the global deployment of our RotoDynamic Technology to industry customers globally, creating a superior customer experience remains at the forefront of our mission,” said Joonas Rauramo, CEO, Coolbrook.

Vesa Kylmälä commented: “I am thrilled to embark on this new journey. Our mission and vision are bold but clear. This is a unique opportunity to work with a great team and forerunner partners and customers to deliver the ground-breaking technology combining rocket science, turbomachinery, and chemical engineering. I am deeply grateful for the chance to contribute to the clean new industrial era with Coolbrook.“

Following successful pilot testing of the RotoDynamic HeaterTM and RotoDynamic ReactorTM technologies in 2023, Coolbrook expects to start the full commercial deployment of its technology in 2025. The combined CO2 emission reduction potential of Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Technology is more than 2.4 billion tons annually, corresponding to 30% of global industrial CO2 emissions and 7% of all global CO2 emissions.

About Coolbrook
Coolbrook is a transformational technology and engineering company on a mission to decarbonise major industrial sectors such as petrochemicals and chemicals, iron and steel, and cement. Coolbrook’s revolutionary rotating technology combines space science, turbomachinery, and chemical engineering to replace the burning of fossil fuels across all major industrial sectors.

The technology has two main applications: RotoDynamic Reactor (RDR) to electrify steam cracking and reach 100% CO2-free olefin production, and RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) to provide carbon-free process heating to iron and steel, cement, pulp and paper, and chemicals and petrochemicals production. Once implemented at scale, Coolbrook’s technology has the potential to reach temperatures of 1700°C and cut 2.4 billion tons (30%) of annual CO2 emissions in heavy industry. In 2022, Coolbrook was named Tech Champion 2022 in the Manufacturing category by The Financial Times.
